Ashly Ibarra is a recent graduate of Dubiski Career High School in Grand Prairie. She served as a reporter and anchor for a student-run news broadcast called GPISD News. Ibarra fell in love with journalism because it gave her the opportunity to speak up about social and political issues. She decided to attend the workshop to gain more experience before she leaves for college.
Kayla Davis is a freelance journalist and Mayborn School of Journalism alumnus. Davis creates social media content for a nonprofit in Denton and worked as managing editor, designer and copy editor and reporter for the North Texas Daily during her time at UNT. She attended the first Mayborn High School Workshop in 2014 as a student and this is her second year serving as a Mayborn High School Workshop counselor.
Troy Guter Jr. is an alumnus of the Mayborn School of Journalism. He serves as director and producer of live events for Game On Sports Productions. He wrestled at the University of North Texas, where he served as team captain and conference medalist. His German shepherd dog, Nala, is his pride and joy. This is his third year serving as a Mayborn High School Workshop counselor.
Leah Waters, an alumnus of the Mayborn Graduate Institute, advises the journalism program at Frisco Heritage High School. She is the director of the Mayborn High School Multimedia Workshop and served as the managing editor of the 2017 Mayborn Magazine. Waters also serves on the board of the Association of Texas Photography Instructors, is the state director of the Texas Association of Journalism Educators and copy edits for The Dallas Morning News.
